LYDIA. Magnesia ad Sipylum. Augustus, with Livia, Caius, and Lucius, 27 BC-AD 14. Hemiassarion (Bronze, 20 mm, 5.88 g, 1 h), Dionysios Kilas, son of Dionysios and priest of the cult of Augustus, 2 BC (?). ΜΑΓΝΗΤΕΣ ΑΠΟ ΣΙΠYΛΟV ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΙ. Jugate heads of Augustus, laureate, and Livia, draped, to right. Rev. ΔΙΟΝYΣΙΟΣ ΔΙΟΝYΣΙΟY ΚΙΛΑΣ - ΙΕΡΕYΣ / ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟY Confronted heads of Gaius and Lucius. BMC 44. RPC I 2449. Rare. An unusually attractive example of this interesting dynastic issue. Slightly rough, otherwise, very fine.


It is likely that Dionysios Kilas, the priest of the cult of Augustus, financed this dynastic issue on the occasion of the visit of Caius and Lucius to Magnesia in 2 BC.
